Germany hope of reaching the round of 16 at 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar ended on Thursday despite the team’s 4-2 win against Costa Rica.
The victory over Costa Rice on Thursday was not enough to see the four-time champions advance to the round of 16.

Germany took the lead through Serge Gnabry’s header in the 10th-minute but Costa Rica leveled up in the 58th minute through Yeltsin Tejeda and Juan Pablo Vargas put them ahead 12 minutes later.
A brace from Kai Havertz and one from Niclas Fullkrug saw Germany take all three points.

In the other group E match, Japan just as they did in the first match against Germany came from a goal down to beat Spain 2-1.
The victory over Spain allowed both teams to advance, with the Japanese team at the top of the group.
