U-20 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria Beat France In Opener

Nigeria U-20 Women’s team, The Falconets began their 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica campaign on a winning note as they defeated France in their Group D opener on Friday morning.

A lone strike by Florish Sabastine in the 85th minute gave the Falconets a narrow 1-0 win over France at the San Jose National Stadium.

A heavy downpour in the 20th minute forced Mexican referee, Francia González to suspend the game.

France thought they had scored from a corner in the 81st minute, but after consultations with the VAR, the goal was overruled for a foul on Nigeria goalkeeper.

With just five minutes to the end of regulation time, the Christopher Danjuma’s led team broke the deadlock, as Flourish Sabastine ran on to a through pass from Idoko before slotting the ball past the French goalkeeper.

The Falconents will trade tackles with South Korea in their second Group D game on Sunday.
